The Refinery

Join us for Dance Wire's third Refinery! This FREE event is open to the public due to generous funding from Multnomah County Cultural Coalition and Oregon Cultural Trust.

May 21st 4:00 - 6:00pm
Peninsula Odd Fellows Lodge
4834 N. Lombard St, Portland, OR 97203

The Refinery is your chance to get a behind-the-scenes look into the choreographer's process! Four to five choreographers of varying styles (from Dance Wire's network) will present a work-in-progress and ask for feedback from the audience. Audience members are welcome to simply observe, however choreographers have submitted specific questions about their work that they are interested in receiving feedback on. Feedback is welcomed and encouraged from both dance experts and dance novices (as general audiences aren't usually composed of dance experts!)

The goals of the Refinery are to:

The Refinery is a free event, open to the public. In addition to the performances, it will include time for networking and refreshments.
How it works:
Dance Wire Director Emily Running will introduce each piece and provide the audience with the type of feedback the dancers are looking for (i.e.: pay close attention to the end of this piece, or do these costumes fit the mood, or does the music add or take away, etc.) After the showing, there will be time for the audience to talk with the performers in a group discussion or to write their feedback down on a card they give to the dancers/choreographers.
