Dance Wire's Access Committee is putting on another Refinery: work-in-progress showcase in May and are still in need of 2-3 more performances. Here are the details.
May 21st 4:00 - 6:00pm
Peninsula Odd Fellows Lodge
4834 N. Lombard St, Portland, OR 97203
The Dance Wire Dance Access Committee is organizing our third Refinery, an event that will allow performers and companies to show works-in-progress and provide and receive feedback to each other all in an informal social setting. The goals of the Refinery are to:
- Create more fellowship between dancers/companies
- Encourage collaboration
- Provide an opportunity to see works in progress from other companies
- Gain feedback on dance from dancers
The Refinery is a free event, open to the public. In addition to the performances, it will include time for networking and refreshments.
How it works:
Dance Wire Director Emily Running will introduce each piece and provide the audience with the type of feedback the dancers are looking for (i.e.: pay close attention to the end of this piece, or do these costumes fit the mood, or does the music add or take away, etc.) After the showing, there will be time for the audience to talk with the performers in a group discussion or to write their feedback down on a card they give to the dancers/choreographers.
We are looking for 2 more showings, 2-10 minutes long, for this Refinery. If your piece is shorter, you may get the opportunity to perform it twice. All dance forms are welcome! Are you interested in showing a piece you are working on? If so, please let me know ASAP and respond to the following questions. We are accepting dances on a first-come first-served basis.
1. Name of company/person performing
2. A sentence or two about the project/piece you would like to share including style
NOTE: The event is casual, there is no special lighting or technical abilities at this venue
To submit a piece, email Committee Chair Rachael Brown at email@example.com
